Update 8/25/14:  This is an update from Gidget in her new foster home.

Hello, my name is Gidget.  My foster mom calls me Gidgy OR Little.  I’m approximately 6 ½  years old.  I’m a very sweet dog.  At the same time, I’m extremely shy.  Once I feel comfortable with you, I absolutely LOVE to have my backed scratched, my tummy, ears, chin and chest rubbed.  Wouldn’t you??  I try very hard to follow the outside potty manners of my housemates.  I do go outside BUT I do have accidents in the house.  I will use wee pads, but NOT always.  This is so confusing to me.  Please be patient.  I’m tiny and so are my messes.

I DON’T like being confined in any way.  Crates and gates are NOT good for me.  I get too nervous. I pace back and forth.  I will bark.  If my foster mom goes to the mailbox, she lets me watch her through the glass door and I feel so much better.  When she comes back, it’s like she’s been gone for an hour.  I wag my stubby ‘little’ tail and spin in circles with joy.

I’ve been told that I have ‘separation anxiety’ I don’t really know what that is…but it sounds scary!  I don’t like to be alone for a long time.  When my foster mom comes home she sees me peeking through the curtains out the front window.  I wait and wait for her return.  Then my foster siblings and I run with excitement to greet her.  We all get a friendly hello and a belly rub.  Those are GREAT!!

I like everyone in house.  Fur siblings and humans are alright with me.  I even like the ‘cat’.  First I barked at her because she was new to me.  I soon realized that she was no threat.  I like to approach.  If someone attempts to come up to me, I get scared.  When the other dogs are getting ‘attention’ I’m quick to join the party.  If they feel safe, then I do too.  In fact, if my foster mom is giving them TOO much attention, I let her know it.  I bark and talk to let her know that it’s my turn.

I’m a bit overweight.  I’m watching what I eat.  Being on the heavy side is NOT good for my knees and my heart.  My treats are limited.  I get one biscuit a day.  My foster mom also gives me carrots.  They are yummy and have very few calories and NO fat!!  A good bone is enjoyable too!!

I really enjoy going for a walk.  I walk well with a HARNESS.  My foster mom doesn’t make me go too far or too fast.  I need to take it slow, so I don’t hurt my knees.  NO JOGGING!!  Save that for the big boys. Exercise is tough, but I know in the long run it will be good for me.  I will live a longer, stronger life.

I don’t really understand the whole toy thing.  The other doggies play with them.  They seem to enjoy running around, chasing each other, playing tug of war.  Sometimes they seem like they’re fighting and that makes me nervous.  I realize they’re OK, because they wag their tails and soon lay down next to each other to rest.  I hope someday, I too, will enjoy this ‘toy ritual’.  I want so badly to be part of the pack.

I’m most comfortable sleeping on my dog bed near my family.  Again, that being confined thing just doesn’t work for me.  I’m quiet and don’t cry as long as I’m near my loved ones.

I don’t mind getting a bath or when someone uses a blow dryer.  The hairbrush itself makes me a little anxious.  When you touch my feet OR hind legs I will stiffen up.  Sadly, in my past I probably wasn’t treated kindly, so I’m just waiting for you to grab me.  BE PATIENT!! I WILL learn to trust.  It is going to take me time.  My foster mom takes her time with my grooming.  I’m quickly learning that when she’s brushing my hair it can be quite relaxing.

We have been working on trust.  I’ve been practicing the ‘sit’ and ‘come’ commands.  I think I’m doing pretty well.  My foster moms says, “good sit” or “good come”.  Sometimes I get a gentle pat on my head, a scratch under my chin or a treat.  I have tremendous potential.  I promise to keep working hard, as long as you promise to LOVE me.

I have a Microchip.  DON’T FORGET to REGISTER me to my new home.  If I’m ever lost any animal hospital or shelter will be able to find my home as long as you’ve updated my ownership and address information.

Update:  July 2014:  Gidget finds herself back in rescue after 2 years.  Her adoptive family felt she just never really bonded with them or their dog.  How anyone could return this sweet girl after the life she led in a puppymill?  Gidget will be seeing our vet this week for a full checkup and once she is cleared, we will begin searching for her fur-ever home so she never has to go through this again.  She has put on quite a bit of weight but we will get her on a proper diet asap.  Please consider submitting an application for this precious girl.

Update 11/5/11: Well it's been a slow process for me.  I am getting a little better but I am always one big muscle knot, especially when I am first touched.  My foster Mommy works with me and after about 10 minutes of being on her lap last night, I finally learned to relax.  I am still very nervous and unsure about certain things in my surrounding.  Everything is so new to me and I do not know how to react. I am so glad that my buddy Reese lives with me in my foster home.  He is so good to me!  He sleeps next to me every night to keep me company so I feel safe when I am with him.  My foster family is working with me because I am a scared little girl but I am getting better with each passing day.  I need a furever home that will continue to work with me and help me come out of my shell so I can learn how to be a happy balanced dog.

Hi there.  I was asked to introduce myself so here goes.... My name is Gidget and I am a puppy mill survivor from the midwest.  I was making so many puppies at this puppy mill farm that were taken away from me much too early and my puppies were sold in pet shops, at auctions and sold to brokers who sold my babies for bad things (dog fighting rings, animal testing, etc).  I think about each and every one of my puppies every day.  The many pups that were born unhealthy and that died as well as my babies that went off to homes... well I do hope they found good homes!  I can only hope my puppies went to good homes because we all know that petshops will sell to anyone without background checking them.  I am so glad to be with Yorkie911 because I am finally retired from making puppies and I know the Rescue Squad will check to make sure the perfect home adopts me!  My adoption fee is $350 and I am going to the dogter to get spayed and get a physical to make sure I am healthy and ready for adoption.  Fill out an application at: www.yorkie911rescue.com.
