Update 10/18/13: After all these months in rescue, I can truly say that dieting stinks! I miss eating all the time. I am told it is the same with humans. However, there are incredible trade-offs. I can now jump on the couch to get comfy. I can take nice long walks. I can even run, and not just on flat ground, but uphill! My foster mom laughs to see my ears fly in the wind as I run up the hill in the backyard. I have to say, though, that the best trade-off is all the petting and love. I used to get fed all the time instead of pet or loved. I like my life better now. Being loved is better than food! Who would have thought a chubby dog like me would ever think that! Merlin 6/21/13: At first it was a little tough adapting to being in rescue but I am doing quite well now. I have a bit of an issue sharing my toys and I believe everything that squeaks is mine! I don't like other dogs playing with "my" stuff but my foster family has been helping me with this issue. Instead of charging another dog who has "my" toy, I just sit, stare and whine which is a HUGE improvement! I'm not a big fan of larger dogs and I will bark or growl at them. As you can see from my recent photo, I am doing wonderful on my new diet. When I stand, you can see light and scenery under my tummy! (Before it used to drag on the ground). I do a good job on walks & can almost walk a complete 2 mile walk without any help. You wouldn't believe how proud my foster family is of me because of my progress! I am house broken and crate trained and I LOVE belly rubs. I can be vocal but then again, how else am I supposed to get your attention? I enjoy being a lapdog and snuggling to sleep. I do well with the other dogs in the home but would probably do best with an adult family or one with older children. Please visit www.yorkie911rescue.com. Woof Woof! My name is Merlin and while I am a Dachshund boy and not a Yorkie, I was surrendered to rescue with my Yorkie brother, Stanley. Our family kept finding less and less time for us and when they had to move, they thought it was best to contact Yorkie911 Rescue. Stanley & I are brothers simply because we were surrendered from the same home and not because we are bonded so we may be adopted separately. If you're looking for a great weight loss companion... I am the dog for you! I am a very overweight Dachshund and have about 10 pounds to lose. Seriously! The only thing I'm starved for is affection & I will bark if you stop petting me! Otherwise, I'm a pretty quiet dog who is content to lay on my bed chewing a toy. My foster Mom says that considering how overweight I am, I am surprisingly spry! I am capable of climbing stairs and jumping up on the couch. On walks, I hold my own when going uphill and I won't slow down or stop. After I complete my walk, I like nothing more than a drink of water and some place to flop down on and go to sleep! I would make a wonderful addition to any household since I am wonderful with kids, other dogs and am house broken. I do require a furever someone who is willing to work on my weight issue since this can lead to other health and physical problems. My birthday is on June 1st and believe it or not, I will turn 10 years young! I would love to celebrate it together with my furever family! I need to visit the dogter this week for a check-up and to be neutered. Both my brother Stanley & I do well in the car and walking on leashes. I also sleep through the night in my crate. Please visit www.yorkie911rescue.com to fill out an adoption application. My adoption fee is $275. More about MerlinGood with Dogs, Good with Kids
